Moe and Maya / Homer and Maggie

It was very sad how the dog took better care of Maggie than Homer and it definitely seemed like Homer spent very little time with Maggie. I think this was somewhat contrary to father's recently spending more time with their kids. I think dads are becoming a lot more involved in their kids lives these days. I don't know if it was a good idea to leave her at the park by herself while he was in the bar even if he was watching her but at least he was trying. At the end, it was very nice to see Homer tell Maggie he loves her and be the caring father he should be. It was interesting how Moe met Maya on the internet because I feel like that is something that is becoming more and more popular these days. It showed the scary side of that though because you never know if the person is telling the truth and you can get into a dangerous situation. It was funny when he first met her and he had to tear down the "Dwarf Tossing" sign in the bar and it was also hilarious when Maya pretended to be a doll on the couch. I had no idea what was wrong with her and I started hysterical laughing when she explained it. Overall it was a good episode and it was nice to see the loving side of Homer come out when he spent time with Maggie.

Homer Misses Wedding

This episode wasn't one of my favorites but it was still pretty good. It was interesting when the Parson kept singing. I'm not sure why he sang but I thought it was funny when he explained how volcanoes were made, saying they formed when the devil got sick. When the Reverend came to the Simpson house and Homer thought he was the pizza guy and went on an idiotic rant it was another example of Homer's stupidity. Another example is shown when he questions what Marge is going to be like when they are married, even after being married to her already for a number of years. I liked how a different side of Homer was shown when he proposed to Marge in the basement. The clues that made her get to the basement was a nice touch and the whole thing showed how much Homer loves Marge. I thought it was funny how Marge turned into a bridezilla while making the wedding plans. It's an example of so many brides today taking control of their weddings and going crazy.

Simpson's Go To Ireland

I liked the story of going back to Ireland so the Grandpa could see it again. I'm sure there is a lot of older people who would like to go back to their homelands and it was nice that he was able to do that. It felt like the episode went really fast though and not much happened other than them making fun of Irish people and bringing up stereotypes, which were actually pretty funny. They had the people river dancing during the Grandpa's flashback. Obviously it was stereotypical when they had actual leprechauns walking around, which the Grandpa called Yupprechauns, referring to Yuppies. The names of the technology companies were also funny, like Mick-rosoft. And at one point Homer flat out says "Irishmen love to get drunk" while trying to convince a man to come into his bar. I find it interesting how in each episode I've seen so far they always mention something from American families. Like the parents celebrating the kids first day back to school and how on mother's day the mother's special treatment doesn't usually last too long. In this episode Marge referred to family vacations when the dad goes off and does something fun while the mom and the kids go and do something else. It's a little sad but I could see it happening when many families go on vacation.

Lisa looks for Gem

I did enjoy this episode, but not as much as the other one. It was hilarious when Marge first got the bandages on her eyes and everyone was being so nice to her and she said it feels like the first ten minutes of mother's day. I thought it was funny because that is exactly how mother's day is, the mother is taken care of in the morning when everyone first wakes up but after that many times the day just goes on normally. It was also funny how they so blatantly put in the river joke that I'm sure everyone has heard so many times, when you have to get three things across a lake. I'm actually surprised Homer was able to do it. I thought it was interesting when right before going into the convent Lisa changed her necklace from a Darwin necklace to a Jesus necklace, two things that are the center of much debate today. It exemplified the conflict between religion and science. There is no question in my mind that Marge shouldn't have had to sacrifice Maggie for the town. She shouldn't have been expected to leave her own daughter in the convent even if it would've brought peace to their town. Peace depends on the people of the town, not on a little girl who is supposedly a chosen gem.

episode 1- assessment test

I really thought it was funny when Homer and Marge were celebrating the kids first day at school in the beginning. Not only was it funny because of the champagne and "New Year's" signs but because I think it exemplified all parents' feelings on the first day of school, although it was a little exaggerated. I think a little part of every parent feels some joy on that day because after a long summer of being with the kids they finally get some peace and quiet. I also thought Lisa's anxiety while taking the test was pretty realistic. I know I can relate to that and I think a lot of people know the feeling of seeing the test questions and drawing blanks and freaking out a little bit. And the worst is when you think every answer choice could be the right answer because then you just have no idea which one to choose, like what happened to Lisa. The ending, to me, was great because if my principal ever canceled a standardized test I would've been so happy and it was cool to see it happen for them. And you have to love the dancing at the end because that was just priceless.
